    Why beef skin?

    Beef skin is an underappreciated and under utilized superfood. It's full in collagen, amino-acids (such as glycine), and boasts other health promoting properties. If you're familiar with the health benefits of gelatin, you'll be happy to know that beef skin carries many of these same properties.

    Why should you eat beef skin?

    Intake of the right amount of essential amino acids can be a little challenging even when eating a varied diet. Beef skin provides high quality protein with some of the most important aminos in a decent amount. Furthermore, collagen and glycine especially are challenging molecules to get in most diets, since the western world does not consume high amounts of ligaments or organ meats. Beef skin satisfies all these important demands.

    • How do you handle organic sourcing of your product?

      We use organic beef skins sourced from grass-fed, grass-finished farms that are geographically as close to us as possible. This allows us to properly vet them by visiting their facilities whilst also ensuring that we're reducing pressure on the environment by avoiding long supply chains. Another benefit of this approach is that it allows us to support local, small farmers who raise healthy and happy cows!

    • Are your products gluten free?*

      Our beef rinds are 100% gluten-free. We made a delicious, zero-carb snack with simple ingredients you can feel good about.

    • What kinds of tests do you perform on your ingredients?

      We are very careful about our ingredients and sourcing to make sure that only organic, healthful compounds are included in the final product. We also test every batch for heavy metals and contaminants to ensure that the product we're producing is even cleaner than you'd expect.

    • Where are your facilities located?

      Our facility is located in Seattle, Washington in the beautiful PNW. Since we live in Seattle, it made the most sense to keep our facility as close as possible so that we can keep a close eye on operations. Each and every skin that makes its way through our facility is inspected carefully for freshness.

    • How do you ensure safe frying of your beef rinds?

      We fry our rinds with the same grass-fed and finished beef tallow that the skin was originally attached to. We're serious about avoiding oxidation in our frying process, so we fry our rinds at 350 degrees fahrenheit (well below tallow's 400-degree smoke point) for a short period of time to maintain as much of the original nutritional content of the skin as possible. We also rotate our tallow every batch to ensure oxidative stability of the oil and avoid hydrolysis and oxidation.

    • How do you make sure your cows are well maintained?

      Our goal is to find farmers who are small, local, and struggling to find an environmentally friendly way to manage their leftover cow products. Since leather is no longer valuable, cow skin is being thrown away and farmers are desperate to find good uses for it that are cost-effective and don't hurt the environment.

      We want to support individuals championing this cause, but our requirements for that are stringent. We try to support farms that are well-maintained, far from pollution sources like roads and highways. We also look for clean, high quality living and grass-conditions that helps ensure the cows are happy and properly treated. We also want to try to support farmers who are struggling financially, as factory farming is wreaking havoc on smaller players and we believe everyone wins when small businesses in communities are doing well financially.

    • Who are you guys?

      Our company was founded by two childhood buddies from Seattle! We both have a history working in kitchens and the food-industry, which brought to our attention many problems with the way companies prepare and serve their food. When companies prioritize profits they let details slide and consumers suffer in silent, hard-to-detect ways. Many of the commercial kitchens we worked in had no established protocols for handling oxidated oils, and their customers suffered because of that!

      Because of what we both learned we are both ultra-health conscious and research deeply before consuming any products. We brought this passion and care to this business with a focus on sustainability and the desire to make the world just a little bit better.

      That's why we are doing our best to be as transparent as possible about the entire sourcing process, top-to-bottom, so you can trust our product the way we like to trust the products we consume.
